Seek & Ask for Allah’s Help Only!

Hadith | Seek & Ask for Allah’s Help Only!
Ibn 'Abbas narrated: “I was behind the Prophet (ﷺ) one day when he said: ‘O boy! I will teach you a statement: Be mindful of Allah and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah and you will find Him before you. When you ask, ask Allah, and when you seek aid, seek Allah's aid. Know that if the entire creation were to gather together to do something to benefit you- you would never get any benefit except that Allah had written for you. And if they were to gather to do something to harm you- you would never be harmed except that Allah had written for you. The pens are lifted and the pages are dried.’”

Our guiding book Quraan gives us a delicate procedure to follow.
‘Say He is the All-Merciful. We believe in Him, and we put all our trust in Him.’(67:29)
A true Muslim or Momin never becomes hopeless as he has strong faith in ALLAH Al-mighty. Who are the controller of the universe and everything happening around in-universe? While reciting kalimah, we put our trust in ALLAH altogether, and it’s a crucial part of emaan to have an undoubted faith in ALLAH.
Abu Huraira reported Allah’s Messenger (Peace be upon him) as saying. A strong believer is better and is more lovable to Allah than a weak believer, and there is good in everyone, (but) cherish that which gives you benefit (in the Hereafter) and seek help from Allah and do not lose heart, and if anything (in the form of trouble) comes to you, don’t say: If I had not done that, it would not have happened so and so, but say: Allah did that what He had ordained to do and your” if” opens the (gate) for the Satan
 [Sahih Muslim Book 33 #6441]
The Very beginning of the Holy Scripture we are blessed with, addresses the same problem in a very comprehensive way. It is reported that Surah-e-Fatiha is the gist or crux of whole holy Quraan. And the verse mentioned below is the heart of the entire surah.

“You alone we worship, and from You alone, we seek help,” [Surah Fatiha]
This profound yet brief and comprehensive ayah has a lot of beauty hidden in it. The first part of this ayah exempts one from shirk and the second part declares one complete trust, faith, and dependency on ALLAH.Such an affirmation would naturally lead to putting oneself in the hands of Allah in all concerns. And as a result,  there is no hurdle left in ALLAH’s help, approaching its supplicator.
‘He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god but He; so take Him for a guardian.’ (73:9)

How To Get Help Of ALLAH :

On the authority of Abu Al-Abbas ‘Abdullah bin ‘Abbass (RA), who said: “One day I was behind the Prophet (SAW) [riding on the same mount] and he told me:
“Young man, I shall teach you some of the words [of advice]:

  • Be mindful of Allah, and Allah will protect you.
  • Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you.
  • If you ask, ask of Allah;
  • If you seek help, seek the help of Allah.
  • Know that if the Nation were to gather together to benefit you with anything, it would benefit you only with something that Allah had already prescribed for you and that if they gather together to harm you with anything, they will harm you only with something Allah had already prescribed for you.
  •  Some Point To Take Care Of:

Now here one should be mind full of certain things.
     1) No one else ALLAH subhana huwatala deserves to be worshiped.
    2) you can not even associate anyone to ALLAH in worshiping. Its shirk
    3) So we must seek help from ALLAH only.
    4) And while calling ALLAH for assistance and help, we must empower our complete faith in him.                                                                                5) Avoid any shirk in praying for help.
  • Dear Muslims! The point we are trying to address over here Is that shirk not merely means to worship or to attribute divine powers to any entity other than ALLAH,  but to have faith in,  or love or obey any entity other than ALLAH to the level which is deserved by ALLAH only is also shirk.
So in case of praying or seeking help, we must be cautious in order praying to someone else in a time of need or distress.
There is a kind of support which every man does seek from other people. Like for a haircut, one has to go to the barber, if one is going to an unknown place one might ask a fellow for assistance or companionship. For our daily needs of life we have to get services or help from the blacksmith, tailors, carpenter, etc. so a question arises what kind of help or assistance is permissible from others, and when does one fall under shirk?
Well basically problem may not be in the type of help we are seeking, but the way we are seeking help.
One may be guilty of shirk under two conditions:
    1)      If one seeks help from any other person, saint, prophet, angle, etc., considering him as being omnipotent like ALLAH.
    2)      Or believing in the omnipotence of ALLAH but along with it, believing that HE has vested a part of HIS power to an angel, saint, prophet or any other creature.
Concluding our discussion, we would sum up major points that, one must have firm faith in the doctrine that everything that happens is made to happen by the power and will of Allah. Along with this, need and importance of prophets, saints and angles cannot be denied too. And in any case, whenever a Muslim encounters a trouble he should immediately seek the help of ALLAH and should impart his complete belief in support of ALLAH and consider him the only controlling power.
